Six Montgomery-area students will each perform a 30-minute, rigorously rehearsed composition and receive immediate instruction and guidance from ClefWorks musicians. Both the performers and the onlookers will learn to listen for and recognize technical elements such as rhythm, pitch, tone, and phrasing, in addition to more general matters of musical style and expression. Students performing in the Master Class are Bryful Sun, Lova Sun, Gannon Parker, Sam Fifield, Jacinth Greywoode and Minjoo Jo. Musicians involved in the Master Class are Curt Thompson, Sarah Pratt, John Richards, Wendy Richman, Katerina Juraskova, Hrant Parsamian and Jihye Chang.

Bryful Sun will be entering the 7th grade at Baldwin Middle Magnet School, where he has been a member of the Baldwin Strings Ensemble under the instruction of Beth Hoener. He has received honors in his academic achievement, including the 2003 Outstanding Achievement Award and the 2005 Highest Math Average, as well as in his competitive swimming, where he took 2nd place in the 2006 USA Swimming Southeast Championships in his age group.

Lova Sun has been playing the piano since age six. At age 11, she made her orchestral debut playing the Haydn D major piano concerto with the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra. Lova has won piano awards throughout the region, most recently earning the first prize in the piano division and also the grand prize of the Lois Pickard Music Scholarship Competition sponsored by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. As a result, she will play with the orchestra next January in concert. Besides piano, Lova is Valedictorian of her graduating class at LAMP High School, earned a perfect score of 2400 on her SAT, was chosen by USA Today as a member of the All-USA High School Academic First Team, and was named a 2007 Presidential Scholar. She plans to attend Princeton University this fall.

Gannon Parker, cello

Gannon Parker began studying cello in 2000. Since then, he has attended the All-State Orchestra Festival 6 times, two of those times playing with the Festival Orchestra. In 2007 Gannon won the ACES competition for the Strings category. He has received a $12,000 music performance scholarship to the University of Alabama and will be majoring in music there in the Fall.

Sam Fifield began his study of piano at the age of eight and has been performing in recitals and competitions for over a decade. In 2005 he appeared as a soloist with the Montgomery Youth Orchestra. Among other awards, Sam was the winner of the 2006 Alabama Music Teacher's Association student competition at which point he was awarded with the Louise McAllister Scholarship. He also received honorable mention for his performance for MTMA (The Montgomery National Teacher's Association).

Jacinth Greywoode, piano
Student of Barbara Shinn

Jacinth Greywoode born in Gainesville, Florida, began formal piano lessons at the age of eleven with Ms. Carol Alexander of Dunedin, Florida. Jacinth has competed and placed in many district and state competitions, including the ACES Competition, AFMC Junior Festival, Boykin Festival, and the Alabama Music Teachers' Association state auditions. Since 2006, Jacinth has worked as pianist and intern with First Baptist Community Ministries for the Nehemiah Center Summer Children's Program in Chisholm, Alabama. He has also attended the Huntingdon Senior Piano and Organ Camp since 2005, and during camp in 2006, he had the opportunity to perform the Mozart C Major Concerto with the Montgomery Symphony Summer Orchestra. As a rising senior at LAMP High School, Jacinth participates in many extracurricular activities, including Forensics, Scholar's Bowl, Model United Nations, and Science Bowl.

Minjoo Jo, piano
Student of Ronald Shinn

Born in Seoul, Korea, Minjoo Jo began piano lessons at age eight. In 2004, she was the junior high state winner of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Competition. Then in 2006, she was the high school state winner of MTNA and also received honorable mention (3rd) in the Southern Division Competition. She was the 1st place winner in many other competitions, including Alabama Music Teachers Association State Solo and State Concerto auditions (2004 though 2006), ACES Competition (2005), Indian Springs Piano Competition (2005), Lois Pickard Music Scholarship Competition (2006), and the Eunice Hoffmeister Young Artists Concerto Competition (2007). Minjoo will perform the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 with Shoals Symphony Orchestra this fall. Minjoo will be a senior this fall at Prattville High School, and she plans to attend a music conservatory when she graduates.
