The ClefWorks annual Composition Competition encourages the creation of original works for chamber music ensembles. This competition benefits patrons, musicians, and composers alike - it affords musicians a chance to rehearse a work with its composer and it offers ClefWorks audiences the rare opportunity to meet the talented people responsible for all phases of a piece's creation and performance. Composers from 32 states and 15 countries across the globe participated in last year's competition, and works are currently being accepted for the 2010 Composition Competition.
The works will be judged by Fireworks Ensemble, who will perform the winning piece at the upcoming ClefWorks Festival in February 2011. The 2010 Composition Competition is open to works for selected instruments, and the deadline for submission is November 1, 2010. The winner to be announced by December 8, 2010 will receive $1,000 as well as reasonable travel expenses from any location within the continental United States to ClefWorks' February 2011 Festival. This will allow the winning composer to participate in rehearsals with the Fireworks Ensemble and attend the performance. Another benefit of winning will be the enjoyment of Southern Hospitality for which Montgomery, Alabama is well known.
