Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
In collaboration with the Alabama Dance Theater
• Wilson Auditorium: “String Quartet in F Major” by Maurice Ravel; “See the Music” commissioned artwork inspired by the music
• Lowder Gallery: “Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major” by Johann Sebastian Bach; “Road Movies” by John Adams; world premiere of original dance choreography by Alabama Dance Theater; début performance of Mike Barnett’s
Ask the Wind, winner of the
2007 Composition Competition
ClefWorks’ inaugural season finale invites patrons to experience a celebration of music, dance and fine art while taking advantage of the final opportunity to visit with the talented group of world class ClefWorks musicians. Plan on enjoying a cocktail while chatting with friends and performers. A dessert reception will be featured in the Museum’s rotunda as final bids are placed on See the Music original artworks.
For space reasons, the audience will be split into two groups upon arrival. One group will begin the evening in the Lowder Gallery, the other in the Wilson Auditorium. After the two performances conclude, there will be an intermission with light refreshments. Following the intermission, the audience from the Lowder Gallery will move into the Wilson Auditorium, and vice versa, for a repeat presentation of each performance.
The final evening of the ClefWorks series will also highlight an artistic project that transpired in the months leading up to the Premiere Season: The ClefWorks
2007 Composition Competition. Composers were asked to enter original works for piano trio (piano, violin, cello). The winning composition will be performed for each audience group in the Lowder Gallery with the composer on hand to speak about his or her music.
The ClefWorks finale will also feature an original dance composition by the Alabama Dance Theater, choreographed to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and John Adams and premiered in the Lowder Gallery. A combination of unlikely bedfellows—the 18th-century Baroque spirituality of Bach; the 20th-century American rhythmic drive of John Adams; and the dancers and choreographers of the Alabama Dance Theater—is the perfect conclusion for ClefWorks 2007 Premiere Season.
